Shred, Scan or Store
Tax season is upon us and so are the abundance of sensitive documents. The question is, what do you do with the documents after? Do you shred them, scan them, or store them away? Let’s dive right in: SHRED:- Junk Mail
- Receipts – there are exceptions with this though. Do not shred receipts for warranties, proofs of purchases, or taxes
- Bank & Investment Statements
- Pay Stubs – make sure to shred once you get the annual employer tax statement
- Tax Returns – if the IRS happens to audit your taxes, you will need to provide this information
- Tax Documents
- Car Title – until your car is sold
- Estate Documents – wills, trusts, insurances policies, etc.
- Loan and Mortgage
- Military Service Records
- Medical Records
- State-Issued Vital Certificates – marriage, birth, divorce, and death certificates
- Social Security Cards
- Titles and Deeds
